PRODUCTION MATERIALS &
CONSUMABLES: CARBON REDUCTION
INITIATIVES
We know that that products and packaging
make up 92.2% of our scope 3 emissions.
This includes all outer SMI packaging, both
plastic poly bags and cardboard boxes, and
our own-brand ROKWEAR packaging. SMI
has already taken key steps to mitigate the
emissions across these activities.
• SMI is shifting from virgin polyester to postconsumer recycled polyester in ROKWEAR
eco products ECOROKWEAR to reduce
carbon emissions.
• We’ve also switched to FSC-certi昀椀ed
cardboard packaging for our gloves,
eliminating over 5 million plastic bags and
28,000kg of plastic. We plan to extend this
to more ROKWEAR products.

• We’re designing a new, streamlined
cardboard outer box for ROKWEAR
footwear products to reduce the amount
of cardboard per box, each box’s weight,
and to improve e昀케ciency when packing in
containers for transport.

• The boxes from our ROKWEAR footwear
products manufactured in Italy are made
from 70% recycled materials and use
water-based ink.
• We will continue exploring product
consolidation in packaging, aiming to pack
5–10 garments per bag where possible
to reduce inbound packaging within our
supply chain.
• SMI’s outer packaging is made from
90% recycled materials and are 100%
recyclable.
Now printed using plant based ink
SMI’s packaging were previously printed with petroleum
- based inks, which releases a higher level of Volatile
Organic Compounds which are more toxic to marine wildlife.
