COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The community engagement pillar emphasis SMI’s committed to build lasting
relationships and make an enduring contribution to local, regional and global
communities where SMI operates.
• Volunteering programmes: SMI encourages our employees to participate
in various volunteer activities, helping them connect with and support local
communities by o昀昀ering every employee one paid day per year dedicated to
volunteer projects.
• Economic development: Investing in local and regional businesses and
schools, SMI can contribute towards supporting future generations through
school level projects including partaking in mock interviews to improve
employability skills and educational programs (SDG 4). The SMI team also

and our e昀昀orts to address societal challenges.
SUSTAINABILITY & SOCIAL
IMPACT
We are committed to driving positive social impact across our value chain,
addressing issues like poverty, inequality, and access to education in the
countries where we operate. Our actions contribute to global goals such as the
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering long-term,
positive change beyond our region and workforce.
• Addressing inequality and access to services: SMI’s due diligence across
our supply chain is driven by the underlining commitment to ensuring that all
employees’ basic human needs are being met.
• Impact investing: Directing capital toward projects that deliver social
bene昀椀ts, such as providing access to clean water, education and supporting
projects which provide job opportunities in communities on a global scale.
• Global and local impact: While global impact e昀昀orts can focus on largescale challenges like climate change or human rights, local impact e昀昀orts can
focus on issues like job creation, educational opportunities, and community
empowerment.
