SMI: ESG REPORT 2025
Climate projects must be audited regularly by independent auditors such as TÜV Nord. These
auditors verify that the project is in compliance with the relevant standards. They also determine
the volume of carbon emissions that have actually been avoided or removed.
Improved cookstoves worldwide
(supported project since 2023)
Improved cookstoves can reduce fuel use by up to 70%,
lowering CO2 emissions and easing pressure on local
forests. By distributing these stoves in rural areas, we
reduce 昀椀rewood collection costs and time, cut smoke
pollution, and improve health, especially for women
and children. The project also boosts local economies
by sourcing stoves locally. Many countries still rely on
open wood 昀椀res, which contribute to high emissions and
pollution, but improved stoves help address these issues.
ACCORDING TO THE WHO (2024), ABOUT
ONE-THIRD OF THE GLOBAL POPULATION
STILL USES UNSAFE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY
HARMFUL COOKING METHODS.
Plastic bank – oceans worldwide
(supported project since 2023)
This project is dedicated to protecting our oceans by
removing plastics, reducing harmful microplastics, and
safeguarding marine biodiversity. The ocean serves as a
natural carbon sink, absorbing a quarter of the carbon in
our atmosphere.
The Plastic Bank initiative allows people to collect plastic
waste from their environments and exchange it for a
fair income, fresh food, clean drinking water, toiletries,
and access to education for their children. To date, this
initiative has created 2,300 jobs in local communities.
These social bene昀椀ts help members, and their families
improve their overall way of life as a source of income is
made more accessible.
