A MESSAGE FROM ESG
In 2023 we published our 2030 ESG Strategy outlining our seven-year
plan, including our commitment to our 5 goals across the three ESG
pillars, and detailing our strategy to support SMI in achieving net zero
by 2050. Last year’s report was all about looking at our ‘Year of Change’
as we highlighted the success and growth of our key ESG initiatives: our
tree planting scheme, recycling scheme, plastic savings, environmentally
friendly products and carbon reduction e昀昀orts - all designed to bring our
customers along on our sustainability journey.
As a business, growth, our people and ESG are at the forefront of our
decision making, driving the ‘how’ and ‘why’ regarding our operations
as we strive towards reaching our goals. Re昀氀ecting on SMI’s growth
as a business over the past few years, the importance of integrating
sustainable practices within our development strategy is integral to our
success. In昀氀uential factors also drive SMI as we recognise the importance
of evolving with global trends alongside ensuring that we continue to
adhere to laws and regulations. In response to these changes, as we look
at the next 昀椀ve years of our 2030 strategy, SMI has introduced changes
to our goals and approach to ESG, whilst strengthening the initiatives
already set in place, and taking more responsibility and greater leaps
towards tackling climate change and minimising our impact on our earth.
THE ESG PILLARS
As we re昀氀ect on 2024 and concentrate on 2025 and beyond, we have
further de昀椀ned the scope under our three ESG pillars.
