SMI’s ECOROKWEAR range features products
made from recycled post-consumer PET
bottles. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a
versatile and durable plastic, commonly used
in products like 昀氀eece jackets and sleeping
bags.
Open loop recycling:
Transforms products into di昀昀erent items,
maintaining a cycle but potentially resulting
in some loss of material quality over time.
Closed loop recycling:
Keeps materials in a continuous cycle
without degradation. This is most e昀昀ective
for materials like aluminum and glass.
WHAT’S BETTER?
In many ways, closed-loop recycling is more
bene昀椀cial because it keeps the material in
continuous circulation, diverting waste from
land昀椀lls. Materials like aluminum, glass, and
certain plastics are ideal for closed-loop
recycling because they don’t degrade during
the process. However, not all materials, such
as many types of plastic, cardboard, or paper,
can be recycled in a closed-loop system. In
these cases, open-loop recycling is often the
more environmentally impactful option.
