SMI: RESPONSIBLE SUSTAINABLE PARTNER STRATEGY 2025
BASELINE COMPLIANCE:
MANDATORY
REQUIREMENTS
The mandatory requirements represent the minimum
threshold our business partners must meet to work
with SMI. Our governance framework comprises of
昀椀ve core principles: awareness, baseline compliance,
accountability and transparency, risk management
and assessments.
Recognising the crucial role our business partners play
in supporting us on our RSPS journey, we require that
all partners abide by the laws and legislation relevant
to them. They must demonstrate the ability to meet
and exceed the legal requirements, conduct training,
implement governance and compliance programmes
and hold their own policies and procedures that align
with the size and risk level of their business.
Our business partners must also demonstrate their
commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations
and combating modern slavery, as SMI maintains
a zero-tolerance policy for child labour, human
tra昀케cking, or modern slavery within our supply chain.
As a business partner to SMI, there could be speci昀椀c
countries in which you operate, or from which you
supply goods and services to SMI, which require
additional compliance with speci昀椀c mandatory
standards and laws. These mandatory requirements
must be adhered to above our RSPS.
If our business partners do not yet have their own
policies, processes and procedures in place, then SMI
wants to work with these partners to tailor suitable
policies that embody our RSPS fundamental principles
whilst scoping out the performance of the business
partner.

ACCOUNTABILITY
& TRANSPARENCY –
MANDATORY MANAGEMENT
PROGRAMME &
DOCUMENTATION
Engaging with our suppliers is vital to the success of our
RSPS. We understand the importance of traceability
across our value chain, and we would like to work with
our business partners to provide full visibility.
All our business partners must have the appropriate
policies, procedures, and processes in place to comply
with the mandatory requirements. This documentation
should be easily accessible, regularly assessed, and
must re昀氀ect the size of the organization, as certain
management systems are required for small, mediumsized, and large businesses.
RISK MANAGEMENT MANDATORY MANAGEMENT
SYSTEMS
The intricacy of a business’s management system,
based on size, geographical locations and other
factors, is what in昀氀uences a business’s risk pro昀椀le.
Looking at the three pillars within our RSPS, we
require all business partners to have management
programmes and systems in place to identify and assess
potential risks within their business. These programmes
should outline the likelihood, impact, and strategies
to overcome the risks related to human rights, the
environment, and business ethics.
