ACTION TAKEN
Reducing our paper consumption has
been another key focus, last year we
launched our warehouse management
system (WMS), this paperless approach
has significantly reduced our operational
paper consumption, the equivalent of SMI
planting 30 trees that year and a further
40 trees in 2021. This digital picking system
has increased efficiency and helped SMI
improve our ecological footprint. As a
company we will continue to implement new
ways to reduce our paper consumption even
further, including looking at digital delivery
notes and online catalogues. Adopting these
new methods would be the equivalent of
planting 283 trees and could help to reduce
our carbon emissions by a further 50 tonnes.
We focus on being energy efficient the
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
provides an indication of the energy
efficiency of a property, the grading ranges
from; A (very efficient) to G (inefficient).
SMI’s Energy EPC certificate at our Head
Office Vision House is rating A, the highest
level a building can be awarded. Our head
office emission rate is 9.49 kgCO2/m2 and
energy usage 93 kwh/m2 per year. The
building is also fitted with energy efficient
long-lasting light-emitting diode (LED) and
motion lighting, lowering the carbon dioxide
the property emits on a yearly basics.
Committed to greener energy SMI have
switched to green energy based on the
purchasing and cancellation of Energy
Attribute Certificates, bringing our scope
2 electricity emissions to zero reducing our
carbon footprint by sixty tonnes. Allowing
SMI to successfully close the gap towards
reaching our goal of 100% green electricity
consumption and net zero targets.
