Employees are a key stakeholder for almost every
business; therefore, it is crucial to place significant
focus on the engagement of your employees.
Role and responsibilities
• Establishing effective communication across all
levels of employees is a commitment SMI made
and continues to adhere by, ensuring various
platforms and processes are set in place to
improve dialogue.
• Employees can articulate any views or concerns
during monthly one to one meetings with their
mangers.
• Managers are trained to take the appropriate
steps to develop and motivate employees.
• Employee surveys, quarterly staff briefings and
open-door culture ensures relevant feedback
from employees can be gathered.
• Feedback is obtained across all levels of the
business, including both of our sites.

Key wins in 2022
• SMI’s suggestion box was very successful and
saw an increase in ideas and feedback from
employees.
• Introduction of monthly yoga sessions for
employees to partake.
• Our new Head Office includes a staff area with
plenty of opportunities for employees to step
away from work, relax and play games.
Key areas of focus for engagement in 2023
• Improve participation with our workforce at our
National Distribution Centre.
• Following on from changes to our business
structure in 2022 where we acquired Swift. SMI
will be focusing on building stronger relationships
with all staff.
• Continued access to mental health support will be
available for all employees.
• Emphasis and regular communication and
projects on important areas including diversity,
inclusion, ESG and wellbeing will be implemented.
