SMI SUSTAINABILITY
GOALS 2023 – 2030
Since COP26 in Glasgow only 29 out of 194 countries
have joined the fight against climate change by
introducing national plans. It is crucial that countries,
companies, and communities all work together to
drive greater climate progress. The UK are among
those countries who are committed to improving and
protecting the environment, following the guidance
set out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC) the UK missions is to ‘restore and
enhance the environment for the next generation,
and to leave the environment in a better state than
we found it’.
SMI is proud to be contributing to our country’s
missions and on our own journey to net zero. We are
on the road to being a net zero company by 2050,
offsetting a maximum of 10% of our carbon residual
emissions that cannot be avoided.
90%
In 2022 the United Nations Climate Change
Conference COP27 took place in Sharm el-Sheikh,
with the key objective directed towards safeguarding
the implementation of the Paris Agreement. According
to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change, CO2 emissions need to be cut 45% by 2030.
We have set five clear goals for the next seven years
aligned with COP27 and UK targets helping SMI in
our pursuit for net zero emissions.
