Carbon calculation We have successfully
reported on our scope 1,2 and 3 emissions,
calculating our operational carbon footprint
for 2021 across both of our sites.
We identified the key hot spots of the business
which include employee commuting, business
travel and paper consumption. SMI launched
a paperless management system at our
distribution centre in 2019 and started to
introduce hybrid and electric cars within our
vehicle fleet.
SMI switched to renewable electricity in
2021, lowering our total emissions and
saving 60 tCO2e.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS
SMI chosen projects focus on providing
clean drinking water, reducing the
amount of plastic waste and supporting
afforestation projects
In September 2022 SMI was proud to
become a carbon neutral business.
Sustainable product range Following
the launch of our new eco range we will
also be focusing on reducing our plastic
packaging, looking into moving away
from traditional petroleum-based inks
and exploring environmentally friendly

SUPPLY CHAIN
VOLUNTEERING
TARGETS
We have mapped out our major suppliers
and components within our supply
chain to provide full visibility and help
us understand where our products come
from.
We are committed to giving back to
our local and wider community through
various volunteer projects. Our Volunteer
Committee consists of staff across all
levels of the business, with every member
of staff receiving eight paid hours a year
dedicated to volunteering.
We have set a number of targets focusing
on the next seven years, all focused on
improving our carbon footprint and
aligned with the seventeen sustainable
development goals outlined by the
United Nations.
