SCOPE REPORTING
Scope 1 covers emissions from sources a business
own or controls directly. SMI’s Head Office and
Warehouse Distribution centre were rental
spaces in 2021. Moving forward the
purchase of Vision House our new Head Office in
Petersfield our scope 1 will be included in our
2022 carbon footprint.
The activities in green were included in our 2021
scope reporting. Moving forward SMI will also
include the activities in blue; raw materials,
packaging, and logistics – covering 95% of our
Operational Emissions.
Scope 2 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas
emissions associated with the purchase of energy
including electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. In
2021 SMI switched to renewable electricity to bring
our scope 2 electricity emissions to zero.
1.
Scope 3 includes all other indirect emissions
associated with a company’s value chain. A
businesses scope 3 emissions fall outside of their
direct control, making them simultaneously
the most important and the most challenging
emissions to manage. The Greenhouse Gas
Protocol established an internationally recognised
approach for emissions calculation, which
divides Scope 3 emissions into 15 categories.
Not every category will be relevant for every
business and sector.
